2012 marks the 15th anniversary of Pacific Vascular Inc. (PVI)’s educational division, Pacific Vascular Institute for Continuing Medical Education (PVICME). PVI is passionate about patient care and the field of non-invasive diagnosis of vascular disease. Our courses are designed for physicians, sonographers, technologists, and other related healthcare professionals to learn the concepts of vascular ultrasound and how to apply them to diagnosis. It is our goal for all learners to embrace this information and ultimately to give all learners the knowledge, resources, and confidence to excel in this field.
We value our opportunities to improve patient care around the globe through our educational courses as well as our online and DVD based educational activities. For these reasons and more, we are very excited to celebrate this milestone and we look forward to sharing our experience for another 15 years!
Celebrate with us… PVICME is offering a 15% discount on group enrollment for our spring courses. For details, call (425)398-7772. For our course schedule, click here
When the going gets tough and you are unable to see what you need to see, don't hang out in the same spot. Try a different window, higher, lower, left or right. Don't forget the wonderful views available from posterior approaches, the coronal line and the flank.
Abdominal tip
One of your best tools is going to be the ability to use various views. Remember that turning the patient on their side can provide several benefits; some structures, as the kidneys, liver and spleen can be seen better from the side. Often, a side view will put deep structures closer and therefore easier to see. And maybe best of all, you will be able to avoid much or all of those pesky gas bubbles.

Vascular Ultrasound: A Foundation to Build From – October 24-27
A four-day comprehensive course in vascular ultrasound designed for cardiologists, echocardiographers, radiologists, radiology sonographers and those cross-training in vascular ultrasound. Areas of focus include duplex of the extracranial carotid arteries and peripheral arteries and veins, and renal arteries and kidneys. Taught through lectures featuring actual case studies, ample time is set aside each afternoon for practical hands-on scanning of live models. Participants will learn techniques for detecting and quantifying disease in the carotid arteries, peripheral arteries and veins, abdominal aorta, renal arteries and kidneys. Interpretive skills are developed through case presentations and interpretation sessions. The course offers a comprehensive overview, from the patient’s referral, clinical history, physical assessment, to the final interpretation. This course has been approved by SVU for 28 hours CME credits for technologists. PVICME designates this educational activity for a maximum of 28 Category I credits toward the AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Abdominal Vascular Course – November 4-5
Designed for technologists and physicians seeking intensive training in duplex scanning of the abdominal vasculature, the Abdominal Vascular Course includes lectures, demonstrations and ample hands-on instruction. During this two-day course participants are instructed on abdominal vascular testing procedures to include detection and quantification of lesions in the renal and mesenteric arteries, assessment for abdominal aortic aneurysm and dissections, evaluation of end organs including the kidneys, liver and spleen and evaluation of patients with portal hypertension and portosystemic shunts. Interpretive skills are developed through case study presentations in all areas of abdominal vascular testing using the most advanced and accepted methods. Patient models with interesting abdominal vascular findings are used during each hands-on session whenever possible with emphasis on the most successful scanning views for visualizing the abdominal vasculature. This course has been approved by SVU for 14 hours CME credits for technologists. PVICME designates this educational activity for a maximum of 14 Category I credits toward the AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
