What do you do when the only people who understood your database have already retired? One team's answer: migrate off it entirely.

That's the position one enterprise team was in running a business-critical application on IBM Informix, across three regional databases with four environments each, and near-zero tolerance for downtime.

The technical blockers were significant:

⚙️ Informix-specific SQL constructs: dynamic statements, computed columns, negative-value sequences with no direct PostgreSQL equivalent
⚙️ Deep stored procedure and trigger logic tied to institutional knowledge, much of it walking out the door as the original engineering team retired
⚙️ A multi-region, multi-environment footprint that demanded a repeatable conversion process, not a one-off fix

Using the Ispirer Toolkit, the team converted the full schema including tables, views, sequences, triggers, indexes, constraints, and stored procedures then hand-tuned the Informix-specific logic to preserve exact behavior on PostgreSQL.

The result: an estimated 3-4x faster migration than a manual rewrite, a phased validation process that puts the customer in control of cutover timing, and a modern database foundation ready for future development.

Informix is retired, but the application isn't going anywhere.
