Some great speakers in American and Ethnic Studies are coming to Seattle for this conference at the EMP next month:
"The annual EMP Pop Conference mixes together ambitious music writing of every kind, in an attempt to bring academics, critics, musicians, and dedicated fans into a collective conversation.
This year’s theme is “Get Ur Freak On: Music, Weirdness, and Transgression.” Presenters include a spectrum of writers, critics, musicians, public intellectuals, and interdisciplinary scholars—Ann Powers, Greil Marcus, Julianne Escobeda Shepherd, Sean Nelson, Mark Anthony Neal, Josh Kun, Eric Lott, Karen Tongson—the list goes on.

This quarter we launched the core course for our revamped American and Ethnic studies major, "Power, Dissent, and American Culture." Today was our last day of class, and we feel really lucky to have had such a great group of students! It was a pleasure for us to teach this class.
