ACM has been awarded Academic Club of the Year, alongside Event of the Year in partnership with IxDA 🎉 🎉
Thank you all so much for your support during the past year, and especially during the hackathon. We're so proud of the impact we've had on the campus community, and we hope to reach even more students in the years to come.
ACM's goal has always been to foster academic excellence on campus, and to give each and every student the competitive advantage they need to capture their dreams. We hope that through our events, workshops, and of course, UWB Hacks, we've managed to live up to those goals. And to everyone who's part of the ACM community - those who competed in UWB Hacks, those who attended our events, and those interested in learning more about us (yes, you reading this announcement!) - we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of this journey. We couldn't have done it without you ♥️

Come join us in DISC-162 on Tuesday, May 27th from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM to learn some Rust!
Rust is a low-level language (with a lot of high-level abstractions!) that helps you write fast and safe software. It's used everywhere from web development to embedded devices, and has a great ecosystem that comes bundled with tools which significantly improve the development process. But one of the biggest benefits to using Rust is that software written in it contains less bugs - that means less time spent debugging your programs, and less crashes and failures when trying to use a piece of software.
Seriously, since I started learning Rust around four years ago, it's transformed the way I write software, and it's always a joy to build projects with it. Rust makes you write code in a way that leads to more robust software - even when those same habits are used outside of Rust - and the compiler keeps you accountable to it. It completely eliminates certain problems (null pointer exceptions, segfaults, data races) that are a pain to deal with in other languages, and provides tools and structure to simplify dealing with everything else. Rust is a difficult language to learn, but it's absolutely worth it in the end, and I'm hoping this workshop can act as a stepping stone on your journey towards mastering it!
