Do you know what natural disasters or emergencies could impact your neighborhood? National Preparedness Month is a great time to learn about the hazards that are most likely to cause problems after a disaster in your area, such as landslides, flooding, and fallen trees.

Prepare with your household and neighborhood by learning what could happen and take action to mitigate possible damage. Having a plan, working with your neighbors, and practicing with your household can help make things safer for everyone!

Imagine Housing Opens Affordable-Housing Community for Seniors in Bothell Units are available to those 55 and up whose income is at or below 50% of the Area Median Income.

Heads up, Bothell! Crews are beginning to close a section of the eastern corner of the gravel lot at Park at Bothell Landing (between NE 180th Street and State Route 522) to begin environmental cleanup work in partnership with the Washington State Department of Ecology. This cleanup work helps protect the Sammamish River and addresses contamination in the soil and groundwater related to former machine shop operations located near Park at Bothell Landing.

On-site cleanup work will begin next week and is expected to wrap in early November, taking place Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00am to 6:00pm. Expect construction noise, future limited lane and sidewalk closures between 9:00am and 5:00pm, and limited parking in the lot due to the closed area.

At last week's City Council meeting, we were honored to have our partners from the Regional Crisis Response Agency join us to accept the proclamation recognizing September 13 through 19 as National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week.

Formed in 2022 through a partnership between the cities of Bothell, Kenmore, Kirkland, Lake Forest Park, and Shoreline, the Regional Crisis Response Agency provides coordinated mobile crisis response services across north King County. These incredible co-responders and crisis responders play an important role in supporting community members experiencing mental health, behavioral health, substance use, and other complex crises. By working alongside first responders, healthcare providers, human services professionals, and community organizations, they help provide compassionate, person-centered support focused on de-escalation, connecting people to resources, and meeting individuals where they are.

While we formally recognized them last week with this proclamation, we continue to be so thankful this week, and EVERY week for the co-responders and crisis responders serving Bothell and our region for the care, compassion, and dedication they bring to our communities every day. Thank you for the important work you do every day 💛

National Preparedness Month is a great time to start your emergency preparedness journey: make a plan, build a kit, and practice with your household, coworkers, and neighbors. If you are already Two-Weeks Ready, that's awesome! Take some time to review and update your plans and kit so it is ready whenever and where ever you need it, and check in with your neighbors if you are able to help them prepare, too.

This September, we're joining our regional partners to be "Prepared Neighbors" by getting to know our neighbors and local hazards. And an essential part of any emergency plan and kit is a communication plan. Do you have your neighbor's contact information? How will you reach your emergency contacts during a disaster such as an earthquake or a major storm? Having contact information written down will help if your phone is lost or not working.

Beginning next week, King County crews will be refreshing roadway markings throughout the city, including painting striping and applying raised pavement markers (RPMs) and thermoplastic crosswalks, stop bars, and turn arrows where needed. This work is supported by the feedback we received earlier this year when we asked the Bothell community to share locations around the city that could use a fresh coat of paint on the roadways - thanks to all who shared their feedback!

Painting will be done overnight beginning on Sunday, September 20, and the remaining work takes place between 6:00am and 2:30pm daily until complete. Work is scheduled for locations throughout the city and is expected to wrap up by the end of October, depending on weather conditions.

At last night's City Council meeting, we were joined by our friends from the United in Culture youth group and the Bothell Library to accept the proclamation for Hispanic and Latin Heritage Month, which celebrates and honors the rich diversity of the Hispanic and Latin communities and the many ways they contribute to our city.

This awesome group of teenagers are kicking off Hispanic and Latin Heritage Month with a community event, Unidos En Cultura/United in Culture, this Saturday, September 19 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at Cedar Grove Park in Bothell. All are welcome to join in the celebrations at this free, teen-led, family-friendly community event!
