There is a piano intro on “Spann Stomp” so beautiful and greasy it sounds like a bar fight in slow motion.

I learned it on guitar out of spite and professional curiosity—two of the strongest forces in nature—because bands, like governments and marriages, must prepare for sudden instability.

So now The Savtones continue the experiment.

May 9 — Strange Brew Tavern — Manchester
May 23 — The Press Room — Portsmouth
with special guests Kind Volt

Come for the blues. Stay for the existential collapse.

I sat alone with a Telecaster and a memory that refused to die.

The theme from Welcome Back, Kotter—a relic of another era, when hope wore corduroy and the future still bothered to introduce itself—now dragged through the circuitry of reverb, stretched thin like a photograph left too long in the sun.

There is something tragic about a melody that once belonged to everyone, now echoing in an empty room.

I recorded it anyway.

Not for nostalgia. Not even for beauty.

But because somewhere out there is a student—confused, restless, maybe a little lost—who still believes that sound can mean something. That a guitar is not just wood and wire, but a tool for survival.

If that’s you… you should probably reach out.

I teach guitar.
We’ll make sense of the noise together.

Five years ago, in a moment of global stillness and private chaos, Quarantinarino emerged.

It did not ask permission.
It simply existed.

And somehow… it still breathes.

1999.
I mailed a demo into the void.

Weeks later… a letter came back.
From Ozzy Osbourne’s camp. Not a rejection. Worse… a pause.

Their label had collapsed.
My demo—placed gently into limbo.
Held. Suspended. Forgotten… but not entirely dismissed.

This is how the music industry works:
not with a bang, but with a filing cabinet.

Somewhere, a younger version of me checked the mailbox, believing destiny might arrive on letterhead.

It didn’t.
But it did write back.

Throwback to 1992 - Malone NYC and Five Guys Named Joe! Quite the irony. What ever happened to Nate Millis?

B minor vamp at 12:26am.
Pseudo-fusion… or a cry for help.

I give lessons btw.
God help us all.

ADDENDUM:

In my ignorance, I believed this to be merely a B minor vamp.
Only later did I discover… it was a Guthrie-style loop all along. Apologies..

Tonight’s rigorous guitar practice consisted of learning the outro from WKRP in Cincinnati.

Berklee never covered this.
Total oversight in the curriculum.

Somewhere a 1979 studio guitarist knocked this out in one take, got paid scale, and went to lunch. Btw I give lessons !!
