For some chronically ill Mass. residents, food is medicine New research shows people on Medicaid who receive medically-tailored meals are less likely to need hospital care or land in emergency departments.

Food can do what medicine does. A new study in Nature Medicine, the largest yet of medically tailored meals delivered through Medicaid, proves it.

Researchers followed nearly 2,000 of our neighbors living with serious illness who received medically tailored meals from our kitchen.

While receiving meals, they were hospitalized 31% less often and visited the emergency room 20% less. And here is the part that changes the conversation. The meals essentially paid for themselves, offsetting 98% of their cost in healthcare savings.

Behind every number is a person managing a hard diagnosis who got the right food, made from scratch and built around their needs by our dietitians and chefs.

A special day celebrating our Teaching Kitchen Class 83! 🎉

This class joined us in March and has now completed our 12-week culinary program, where they mastered essential skills and earned their ServSafe certification.

They’ve also been an integral part of our production kitchen, helping prepare nearly 25,000 medically tailored meals each week for clients across MA and RI experiencing illness. We are deeply grateful for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to the program.
