Over the course of his long, full & lucky life, my father, who passed away yesterday at the age of 90, advised Presidents, survived coups & presided over large & storied institutions. He will be remembered by his three lumbering & loving sons for all of these things, and for imbuing us with our goofy sense of humor, our love of travel & adventure & ravenous eating, & perhaps most of all, our love for that king of condiments, mayonnaise.

Congratulations to my friends Jerry Saltz & robertasmithnyc & all of those involved in the production of ‘The House of Criticism: a Love Story’, a great movie about the the art world over the last half century, the writing life, & those two things which are only rarely entwined in more ore less perfect harmony in any relationship: an affair of the heart & the life of the mind.
