Panhead: Loud, Dissonant, and Melodic Since 1992

Formed in Boston, MA, in 1992, Panhead carved out a distinct sound in the indie rock scene, blending dissonance and melody into their music. Known for their raw energy and DIY ethos, the trio—John Cahill (drums and vocals), Robert Masserelli (bass and vocals), and Steve Mammone (guitar and vocals)—became a staple in Boston’s underground music scene. Their music found a home on college radio, garnering airplay across the U.S., and they even received unexpected royalties from the UK for a track that made its way onto a TV show. Panhead’s early albums were recorded at the legendary Fort Apache Studios in Roxbury and Cambridge, MA, with renowned producers Tim O’Heir and Carl Plaster. This period solidified their place in Boston’s music history, with their recordings capturing the band’s dynamic, unpolished sound. After more than a decade of relentless performing, Panhead took a break to focus on family life. However, the original lineup reunited a year ago, picking up right where they left off. With new songs set to be released by the end of the year, Panhead is ready to make their mark once again—louder and bolder than ever.
