A very difficult, very beatiful night hearing Rachel Goldberg-Polin discuss the “pain letter drenched in love” as she calls her book- When We See You Again. She is both funny and poetic, realistic and very hope filled. Knowing she and her son shared so much, that he knew they were unyielding in their search for him and all the hostages, gave me solace as it did her. This is a testament to the need to use our grief inside art, of any kind.
I am grateful to and all those who brought her to the many, many assembled to honor the love story of Hersh.

2 months on the road.
15 cities.
12 performances.
A Bar Mitzvah and Passover , and a very special sabbath weekend ritual rolled in, culminating with a Red Sox game today.
Drum lessons and music, loads of music.
Sitting in and with nature and all the conversations that this world demands of us.
Just a word to encapsulate it all for now-
AWE.

Perhaps I spent too much time alone today, or that I was listening to an esteemed panel from Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation teach about compassion, but this scene just broke my heart open.
How do we live in community while pursuing our individuals paths? How to find the balance between home and the open waters?
And how do we decide who and what to follow?
Community matters. Even when all those assembled don’t look like us.
Here we go, San Antonio. All Things Equal: The Life & Trials of Ruth Bader Ginsburg tomorrow night.
I’ll never forget my 48 hours in Marietta, Ohio.
Thanks for the lesson 🙏
Wondering what will happen tonight- have we met our match? Will people show up who hear a different point of view perhaps than their porches and storefronts suggest? And can I stay with the conversation if they actually do?
I know, I fancy myself now some kind of field reporter- but I couldn’t help my self.
I wound up in Mt Sterling, Ohio, literally off the beaten path, searching to fill my tank, gas and belly. And found Two Hands coffee shop. Kim, lovely woman in charge, had her crafts and tea elixirs humbly on display while her kids served me a great cup of coffee with care and more than polite conversation.
They are being home schooled here in this very coffee shop, learning life skills aplenty.
This small community anchors itself she said around this gathering hole, which was the inception behind this shop.
We talked parenting- i was careful but curious, as I asked about aspirations for college- none the 3 kids assured me quickly. I asked about the progressive values I saw advertised, and gently inquired if they knew of RBG. Kim was careful but warm, and after the kids listened to their mom’s recap of what RBG was known for, they told me about a woman they found similar, Eleanor of Aquitaine, a medieval figure ahead of her time whom they’d just explored for a school project.
Same room many doors? A step perhaps in listening and talking with others we may not agree with.
