Today we celebrate Juneteenth - the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans were finally told they were free. Now it is a national holiday that represents freedom, resilience, and unity.

Today we also celebrate our fourth anniversary of Majira’s incorporation as an official nonprofit organization. This is in recognition that despite all of the progress that has been made, there is still work to be done in the ongoing fight for equality.

We will continue to work to close the racial wealth gap by cultivating founders, companies, and communities of color through our mission of community development through entrepreneurship. Keep an eye out as we prepare to open the application for our 9th cohort of our flagship accelerator program in partnership with BCG Spark!

The Majira Project's vision is economic justice for Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities across America. We pursue this through spurring growth for small businesses from or serving these communities. For every dollar given, we're able to provide $17 in services to entrepreneurs that create wealth and jobs in underserved communities. We're looking to raise $100K by the end of the year to support our newest cohort of 41 and 87 alumni small businesses across the country. Will you join us this in helping to close the racial wealth gap in America by giving today? https://donorbox.org/majira-project-2022

Today we’re celebrating all the out there hustling daily and proving that the future is female, and that future is now. We’re proud that 61% of our companies are led by women and we’re highlighting 6 of our founders who are uplifting other women as part of their journey (clockwise from top left):

BWWA provides cultural wealth education, business support, and financial assistance strengthening Black Women's capacity to build generational wealth.

After having to make her own products for her skin, Dr. Anne Beal (β€˜21) discovered that the challenge wasn’t just personal: 70% of women of color say that current products don’t work for them and that 75% of products marketed toward women of color contain ingredients classified as toxins. She founded Absolute JOI - Skincare for Women of Color to provide women of color clean, effective beauty alternatives.

Barbara Jones (β€˜21) is the founder & CEO of Lillii RNB, an Enterprise Solutions Company specialized in retail tech and are the creators of the Freeing.Returns Total Retail Loss and Returns Management Platform. As a black veteran tech founder, Barbara’s vision is to bring more women into tech. Lillii is an acronym for β€œLet’s Imagine Life with Ladies in IT”. In addition to Enterprise Solutions, they provide online training for women who want to enter the retail tech space.

As a maternal mental health advocate, Lauren Elliott (β€˜20) and her company, Candlelit, are working to create a world where every new mom has access to culturally-relevant, evidence-based behavioral health screening, education, and support.
