Every family has their own food traditions and recipes that get passed down with care. But if you’re the daughters of the late Clara María González de Amezúa, your family recipes happen to be an unparalleled collection of traditional Spanish Gastronomy. One can only imagine the flavors and memories that have passed through their kitchens.
Luckily for us, we don’t have to imagine. Clara Maria’s daughters, Maria and Gabriela, will be a part of the upcoming Oldways Madrid Culinaria, teaching a cooking class and preparing a lunch. Read more: https://sarabaersinnott.substack.com/p/exceptional-madrid?
As we enter June, we're reflecting back on our conversation from 2022 with 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘥 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘥𝘴 author, Nicole A. Taylor.
Juneteenth is more than just a holiday—it’s a powerful reminder of resilience, a celebration of freedom, and a call to remember the delayed yet momentous arrival of emancipation in the United States. On June 19, 1865—two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation—Union soldiers finally arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans of their freedom. This day marks the true turning point of liberation for many and is honored across the country as a time to reflect, rejoice, and reunite in community.

Enjoying the pleasures of food and drink with others is one of the pillars of the Mediterranean Diet-and enjoying a meal outdoors is a big part of the Mediterranean culture.
A mild climate and high value placed on fresh, seasonal produce in the Mediterranean lends itself to preparing and eating food under the sky for much of the year. With that inspiration in mind, we’re here to help you plan a simple Spanish picnic.
It might even have you daydreaming of a trip to Madrid... https://bit.ly/3MFO33x
What ingredients would you add to your Spanish picnic plate?

Happy National Olive Day!
When you adopt the Mediterranean Diet, olives become an important ingredient to use daily in many different ways—on their own as snacks and appetizers, or as important components in dips, sauces, salads, whole grain and pasta dishes, stews, and even baked goods. They’re an excellent source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, important fatty acids, natural antioxidants, and iron. There are many different kinds of olives, with varying flavors and colors. Sample them all to find your favorites.
