It seems like everyday there is a new article or research paper that describes the benefits of doing something creative. It can be anything; knitting, painting, sewing, singing...whatever artistic pursuit you feel drawn too can make a difference for your well being.

When I created the Drawing Lab it was to give back to everyone the comfort and ability to draw. I have a super simple approach to teaching drawing that helps you feel confidence in your own drawing ability even if it is messy or looks like a scribble. To me it seems obvious and uncomplicated. Kids need art. They need time to express themselves and make a mess and not worry about making mistakes. Art making, is a way to practice being in that place of not knowing and learning, to trust your self, your own line and your own way.

We need easy ways for kids to engage with their creative sides. A way that is non judgmental and not high stakes. I see drawing as the easiest way in and the lowest barrier to entry. All you need is paper and pencil. And the imagination is off…if we as parents, teachers, adults let them go and let them find freedom in art making we can help our kids in so many ways.
