Dozens of Head Start workers are members of AFSCME Local 1369 at Capstone Community Action in Vermont who work tirelessly day in and day out to sure make low-income children are provided with the education, nutrition and access to health care they need to succeed and live healthy, successful lives. Today was the close of the 23rd Biennial AFSCME Council 93 Legislative Conference! After closing remarks from President Tiger Stockbridge and Executive Director Mark Bernard, the day ended with our basket raffle and 50/50 drawing. Dozens of locals generously donated basket to the raffle which helped raise thousands of dollars for the AFSCME Council 93 memorial scholarship fund! CJ Silva from Local 1368 was sworn in as the newest Executive Board member.

That’s a wrap on Day 2 at the Council 93 Legislative Conference! MA Gov. Maura Healey and MA 6th District Congressional candidate Dan Koh addressed the Conference before AFSCME International talked about the importance of getting involved in elections at the local, state, and federal level to fight for candidates that support working people! The day ended with the Annual AFSCME Council 93 Banquet and awarding the Council 93 Memorial Scholarships!

Great Day 1 at the AFSCME Council 93 Legislative Conference! The day started with the AFSCME Local 419 honor guard leading a moment of silence in remembrance of the lives lost on 9/11. President Tiger Stockbridge and Executive Director then addressed the gathered delegates- representing dozens of locals from across Northern New England- on the state of our union. The conference heard from featured speakers Sen. Ed Markey, Maine Senate Candidate Troy Jackson, and Massachusetts AFL-CIO State Fed Secretary Treasurer Kevin Brousseau. The day ended with Sen. Ed Markey presented long time AFSCME leader and activist Ed Keefe with a US Senate Citation for his instrumental efforts over decades to repeal the WEP/GPO and provide full Social Security benefits to public sector workers and surviving spouses.
