Newton, MA based designer, Hetty Friedman, produces a line of wearable hand wovens. Working in collaboration with a 180 woman Fair Trade weaver's cooperative in Solola Guatemala, she commissions some of her production from the back strap weavers there, teaches new techniques and designs for their production line. Hetty also takes groups of travelers down to meet the weavers and explore Mayan Guate

Ever wondered what happens before the weaving begins?
Today’s behind-the-scenes look takes us to the winding station, where a bobbin is carefully filled with yarn before it’s loaded into the shuttle. While it may seem like a small step, winding a bobbin is an essential part of the weaving process.
There's something magical about the rhythm of weaving. The gentle glide of the shuttle, the soft beat of the loom, and the slow transformation of yarn into fabric.
Turn up the sound and enjoy a few moments of calm as this new piece takes shape.
