“It’s just nasty.” In our latest chronicle of classic New England summer races, Randy Thomas talks us through the Litchfield Hills Road Race in northwestern Connecticut. True to its name, it features a gnarly uphill final mile.
Catch the Tracksmith Envoy as it crisscrosses the region with a limited-edition collection, Eliot Ryder testing, vintage and more…
Block Island is a good place to slow down. It’s 9.73 square miles. The Atlantic is almost always visible and you’re outside as long as the sun is up, barring the occasional afternoon thunderstorm. Run. Outdoor shower. Sit on a towel at Ballard’s Beach. Crash into the water. Dry off and double. Rinse the sweat and sunscreen off. Grill dinner outside. Do it all again tomorrow.”
Rhode Island-born runner Jeanne Mack sets the scene for Summer 2026.
Pack your bags and meet us at the Port Judith ferry. We’re headed to Block Island tomorrow.
Local road races are the heart of our sport.
As part of the ’s summer tour of New England, we’re releasing dispatches from the road and the communities we meet along the way.
Up first: The Covered Bridges Half in Woodstock, VT. Powered by grassroots outreach and the allure of racing a net-downhill course on some of Vermont’s most scenic roads, what started in 1992 as a race of 400, has grown to a sell-out affair of 4,000 and raised over $2 million for local charities.
