Award-winning poet Mojdeh Stoakley is coming all the way from Chicago to lead us in our next class, “Write Me Down In History.” This workshop explores how poetry has acted as a historical archive and vehicle or catalyst to social revolutions through the lens of poets who would be considered “cultural workers” or “social practice artists”today. Participants will explore the use and power of community and personal narratives for social change. All writing levels welcome

Please support Lucy Parsons Center] by emailing them your memories of 549 Columbus Ave as LPC/Make Shift. Their move back in to our beloved space has been stalled due to an unexpected ownership transfer. We need your help now to keep the space in the artist/organizer community.

Posted • Lucy Parsons Center] We haven’t been able to use the space at 549 Columbus Ave. but someone found a good place to plug in a TV. We love creative energy in a semi-vacant community space 😉

If you didn’t hear, problems with property transfer and our verbal rental agreement arose when the landlord of the space died suddenly a few months ago. This put a halt to our moving process and has left the space in limbo. If you want to help us keep this space in community hands, email us with your stories and memories of the LPC/Makeshift on Columbus ave.

Your testimonials could help build our case to the new property owner to respect our plan to move there.

While our main image of Irish dance is the virtuosity of Riverdance, it is, fundamentally, a folk dance. "Old-style" Irish dance is relaxed and accessible, leaving room for individual flare and modification. In this class, we will honor this tradition by using these steps to dance as a community, connect with each other, and connect with our bodies in a healthy way. By focusing on this connection, we can also challenge the more harmful and inaccessible aspects of dance, finding new ways to move together joyfully that work for whoever is there. This class is for absolute beginners who have never tried a dance class in their life, experienced dancers looking for another perspective on dance, and everyone in between. Class is gender neutral, queer-friendly, and body positive.

Thursday, September 8th at 7pm EDT
