At 1:00 PM, November 16, there will be a dedication ceremony for the life-sized statue of teacher and abolitionist Charlotte Forten in the park bearing her name in Salem MA. As part of the event I will have a 228 foot horizontal scroll in the park on the railing of the Harbor Walk which runs behind the park, featuring texts from Forten's journal.

Join Musician and Composer Basel Zayed and The Center for Arabic Culture in an online Fundraising concert to support the humanitarian aid efforts in the aftermath of the earthquake that hit Syria.

The free, open to all ages, three day Boston Art Book Fair is set to return to the Cyclorama on November 4–6! We'll soon be announcing more information about exhibitors, events, the PARTY, and all the art books you'll get to experience at this fourth edition of one of the largest art book fairs on the East Coast.

The Boston Vigilance Committee brought together black and white abolitionists and concerned citizens who refused to submit to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. Committee members helped raise funds for food, shelter, clothing and other necessities for freedom seekers. MLK Summer Scholar Antonae wrote on John S. Rock, an active member of the committee. Antonae writes “Records from the Boston Vigilance Committee showed that Rock treated a “fugitive” child, Eliza Jones and was paid $10 by the committee.”
