Ballroom to boogie: How dancing can improve seniors’ brain health | Brain | UT Southwestern Medical Center 02/11/2021

"Musical rhythms stimulate certain areas of the brain often known as our 'rewards centers.' These regions are associated with the chemical dopamine, which affects happiness and well-being as well as movement and thinking. Dancing also stimulates the motor and sensory circuits in the brain. These benefits combined offer older adults a unique brain activation they might not get from the gym"

It's never too late to start dancing! Want to dance with me? Message me about bookings.

3 years ago I received a beautiful card from the dancers of Rainbow Adult Day Health in Quincy with an illustration by Zebiao Fu.

I've connected with so many communities over the years and I'm eager to connect with more - message me if you're interested in booking Steps in Time to visit your community!

This workshop is designed for solo participants dancing in their living spaces. It will include a brief history, acknowledging the origins of each dance style: Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Cha-cha, Rumba, and East Coast Swing. Michael is an independent dance artist, based in Boston. He is the founding director of Steps in Time®, an adaptive ballroom dance program serving assisted living and memory care communities in and around Greater Boston. He is the co-producer of Dancing Queerly, an annual festival of performances, workshops, discussions and social dance gatherings by and for the LGBTQ+ community.

This 8-week series will be held Tuesday mornings from 10:00-11:00 am ET, from November 3 through December 22, 2020.

Suggested donations: $10 per class, or $75 for the entire 8-week series. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
