Justice at Work is a multilingual legal nonprofit founded solely to support organizations of workers in low-paying jobs.

We envision a future in which all workers have the power to ensure safe and healthy conditions, fair wages, and dignity and respect. Justice at Work improves workplace conditions for low-wage workers by providing strategic legal support to community-based worker organizations and their members.

Adriana's leadership -

Adriana's leadership Dear Supporter, When asked how she became a leader, Adriana smiles and explains that she’s never considered herself to be one – the word is intimidating. But when she shares her story, it’s clear that she and her coworkers – who organized successfully to end wage theft and mistreatment at a ...

This year, as Giving Tuesday once again floods us with appeals of charity, choose solidarity.

Join Macciel and workers in low-paying jobs who have been on the front lines during Trump 2.0. For years, Macciel and co-workers prepared food for takeout and delivery for a popular chain that has hundreds of franchises in the United States. Macciel’s hours felt endless–almost 80 hours per week. At one point, Macciel went months without a day off. In addition to not being paid any overtime, Macciel and coworkers were forced to work off the clock. After feeling mistreated on top of having their wages stolen, Macciel convinced coworkers to take a stand and led them to the Brazilian Women’s Group (BWG) in Allston. BWG, in turn, brought Macciel and coworkers to the Building Justice Committee of the Brazilian Worker Center, and, thanks to you, Building Justice has supported Macciel leading coworkers in demanding their fair pay.

Join us in solidarity with Macciel and thousands of workers in dangerous, low-paying jobs, as they continue to demand justice in 2026 and beyond.
Macciel’s message to other workers: Look for justice–don’t be scared. Bosses here think they can do whatever they want, but that’s not the case. We need to demand what is rightfully ours.

Donate one hour of your typical pay today to make sure workers have the best legal support possible as they lead the fight for wage justice. jatwork.org/donate

This summer, Justice at Work has had the pleasure of having Peggy Browning Fellow Ali Mirza on the team supporting workers' rights.

Ali is a law student at the University of Pennsylvania and grew up in the Chicago-land area. After completing undergrad, he worked in eviction defense in Detroit which helped him develop his understanding of the through-lines between varying forms of systemic injustice. This summer, Ali has counseled workers who applied for Deferred Action for Labor Enforcement (DALE) under the Biden Administration, researched temporary workers’ rights, and supported ongoing litigation. Following law school, he hopes to use the legal system to create a more egalitarian society.
