Shawmut Design and Construction
A Better Building Experience. At Shawmut Design and Construction, we promise our clients a better building experience. Winning for clients is our passion.
As an award-winning construction management firm, we are dedicated to outperforming expectations every day—a responsibility we take seriously as employee-owners and a promise we make to each one of our partners. Right from the start—all the way to the ribbon cutting—we promise our clients a building experience that’s the very best. We succeed when our clients enjoy the building process as much as
June is National Safety Month, and at Shawmut, safety is more than a mandate—it’s a mindset woven into every aspect of our work and extended into the communities where we build.
As a longstanding partner of the National Safety Council, we’re committed to driving an industry-wide safety culture that goes beyond compliance and focuses on the entire person—encompassing both mental and physical health on and off the jobsite. This dedication has helped us achieve zero OSHA violations in the last ten years while also driving proactive initiatives that support the overall well-being of our teams and trade partners.
To see how this commitment has translated into real-world impact, Chief Safety Officer Shaun Carvalho, Senior Director of Construction Operations Kevin Piraino, and Senior Superintendent Jack Carney recently shared how we deployed naloxone across our jobsites and offices a decade before California’s 2028 requirement—a critical step to help address the opioid crisis in the construction industry.

We’ve reached an exciting milestone at Excel Miami alongside Clearline Real Estate: the start of what will be the tallest mural in the United States—a four-mural installation by internationally renowned German artist MadC Rising 245 feet on the south side of the 24-story residential tower, the mural will create one of the most ambitious public-facing visual landmarks in downtown Miami.
As the artwork comes to life throughout the month, the community is welcome to come watch the process unfold.
This milestone reflects the highest level of collaboration, craft, and ex*****on to deliver the building on schedule while preparing it as the ideal canvas for MadC and her team to safely complete this large-scale installation.

How do you introduce mass timber to a region on a bold scale?
At 843 N Spring Street in the heart of Los Angeles, Shawmut installed 82,000 square feet of cross-laminated timber in a unique hybrid structural system that accounted for the building’s gravity and seismic loads, reduced the overall building weight, made the installation more efficient, and maintained the aesthetic of the mass timber with open wood ceiling both indoors and out.
Furthering its sustainability and low carbon design, the project harnesses the benefits of the Southern California climate with a rooftop solar array, indoor/outdoor layout for natural ventilation, and a tiered vertical garden that’s irrigated by a 15,000-gallon cistern that captures stormwater.
