Join us for an evening of live music, creativity, and community at Tunefoolery’s monthly Member Feature & Open Mic!

This month, we’re excited to feature Jason Scolnick, a longtime Tunefoolery member whose love of music has shaped his life from an early age. Inspired to pick up the guitar at age eight, Jason has been performing since 1992 and later earned his Specialist Certificate in Guitar Skills from Berklee College of Music.

Drawing inspiration from blues, classic rock, and artists like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia, and Prince, Jason brings expressive guitar playing and heartfelt vocals to every performance. This year, he became a professional music therapist, combining his love of music with his desire to help others.

After Jason’s feature set, the stage is yours! Our Open Mic welcomes musicians, poets, comedians, storytellers, and performers of all experience levels in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Tunefoolery is a collective of musicians in mental health recovery using music to inspire hope, build community, and challenge stigma. We’d love to have you join us.

Tunefoolery Member Feature & Open Mic – July 8

Tunefoolery is excited to welcome everyone back to our monthly Member Feature and Open Mic at Arts at the Armory in Somerville on Wednesday, July 8 at 7:00 pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.

This month, we are proud to feature Tunefoolery member Jonathan Krushell.

Jonathan Krushell is a singer-songwriter from Needham, Massachusetts. His music draws from a variety of styles, including soul, blues, jazz, folk, and the Great American Songbook. After many years of singing and playing other artists’ music, Jonathan began writing his own songs during the pandemic.

He has an associate’s degree in liberal arts from MassBay Community College and has just received his Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. This year, he will pursue his studies in a graduate-level vocal music program at the New England Conservatory. Jonathan is excited to work as a performer for Tunefoolery and finds that playing music for others has as much of a healing impact on his own mental health as it does on theirs.

The evening will also include our Open Mic, which remains a welcoming and vibrant space for artists of all levels. Whether you are a seasoned performer or simply looking for a supportive place to share your music or creative work, the Tunefoolery open mic is a wonderful place to connect with community.

Tunefoolery Member Feature & Open Mic – June 10

Tunefoolery is excited to welcome everyone back to our monthly Member Feature and Open Mic at Arts at the Armory in Somerville on Wednesday, June 10, at 7:00 pm. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

This month, we are proud to feature Tunefoolery members Trudi Goodman and Freeana.

Trudi Goodman joined Tunefoolery in 2007 as a guitarist and singer. A lifelong performer, Trudi began playing music at age 12, attended Berklee College of Music, and earned her BA in music and theater from UMass Boston. She is a professional musician, singer, actor, teacher, and an MA State-Certified Peer Support Counselor.

Trudi’s music reflects a wide range of influences, including Yiddish music, jazz, a ca****la, foreign language music, and eclectic styles. She sings, translates, and performs in seven languages, bringing warmth, skill, and expressive storytelling to the stage.

Freeana is a lifelong musician and gifted multi-instrumentalist whose healing world music draws from many cultures, traditions, and sounds. Her performances may include vocals, Native American flutes, recorder, didgeridoo, keyboard, and Middle Eastern doumbek.

A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Freeana has performed professionally with orchestras throughout Europe, in the Boston-area duo Freeana and Rosen, and with Tunefoolery for nearly 25 years. Her music invites listeners into a rich, soulful, and deeply expressive soundscape.

The evening will also include our Open Mic, a welcoming and vibrant space for artists of all levels. Whether you are a seasoned performer or simply looking for a supportive place to share your music or creative work, the Tunefoolery open mic is a wonderful place to connect with community.

This month’s gathering will also offer Tunefoolery members an opportunity to remember Jeff Margulies, whose presence meant a great deal to the community.

Freeana Trudi Goodman Mass Cultural Council

Tunefoolery Member Feature & Open Mic – May 13

Tunefoolery is excited to welcome everyone back to our monthly Member Feature and Open Mic at Arts at the Armory in Somerville on Wednesday, May 13, at 7:00 pm. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

This month, we are proud to feature Tunefoolery members Robert Bonaccorso and Nate Dubick on vocals and guitar.

Robert Bonaccorso began playing music at just seven years old. By age eleven, he was already performing guitar and vocals in the very first folk mass in the Archdiocese of Boston in 1967. A turning point in Robert’s musical journey came when a supportive psychiatric nurse helped him attend a summer program at Berklee College of Music, an experience that helped fuel his passion and develop his skills.

For ten years, Robert shared music with patients at McLean Hospital’s geriatric psychiatric unit, an experience that shaped his commitment to using music as a force for connection and healing. He joined Tunefoolery in 2023, bringing with him a lifelong love of 1960s pop, especially The Beatles. Through Tunefoolery, Robert has found a world of friendships and a new, expanded life of performing that he never realized was within him. When he is not making music, Robert dives into another passion, literally, as a licensed scuba diver exploring the underwater world.

We are also proud to feature Nate Dubick, who joined Tunefoolery in November 2023. Nate’s music is powerful and compelling, carrying the depth of his lived experience as an addict who lived on the streets for many years. Through his songs and performances, Nate brings honesty, resilience, and connection to the stage.

Nate says, “I love being a member of Tunefoolery. I get to play music and share my story with patients in the hospital struggling with their mental health. Hopefully, I can inspire someone who might see themselves in me as I see myself in them.” Nate is currently in the process of recording his first album.

The evening will also include our Open Mic, which continues to be a welcoming and vibrant space for artists of all levels. Whether you are a seasoned performer or simply looking for a supportive place to share your music or creative work, the Tunefoolery open mic is a wonderful place to connect with community.
