BSCers George Andrews, Joe White, Taylor Dowdy, and Dave Biancavilla hit the links this week at the “Making History Golf Tournament” at Beverly Golf & Tennis Club, celebrating the City of Beverly’s 400-year history. ⛳️

The location made the day even more meaningful for BSC. Our team partnered with the City on improvements to the 18th fairway, providing civil engineering, ecological science, land surveying, permitting, and construction administration services.

The project helped improve playability, upgrade drainage, replace the golf cart bridge deck, and support environmental resilience through compensatory flood storage and wetland replication.

A great day celebrating Beverly’s past, supporting its future, and recognizing the value of resilient community spaces.

Oxoboxo Lofts Adaptive Reuse Project Receives 2026 Preservation Connecticut Award of Merit - BSC Group 06/10/2026

Oxoboxo Lofts has received a 2026 Preservation Connecticut Award of Merit for the transformation of a 19th-century mill into 70 apartments, including needed housing for the Montville area 🏘️

With a brook flowing beneath the building, a FEMA floodway, steep terrain, and a historic high-hazard dam in the mix, this project demanded serious technical coordination and creative problem-solving.

To help make it happen, our team:
🌊 Navigated complex floodway and permitting challenges
🚜 Supported removal of a historic high-hazard dam
📐 Designed custom stairs, walkways, and illuminated handrails to improve access across the site

Great to see this project continue to earn recognition, including the 2025 AIA Connecticut Elizabeth Mills Brown Award of Excellence and Commendation for Masonry Preservation ✨

A strong example of what can happen when historic preservation, engineering, and thoughtful design come together.

What if we treated wetlands as partners, not just resources? 🌎🌿

At SWS New Orleans, BSC’s Gillian Davies is hosting a symposium that’s all about transformation. We’re moving the conversation from "management" to "relationship."

The Experience:
✨ Community-made videos from around the globe
✨ An animation on the Rights of Wetlands
✨ The Write Shop: We want to hear from you. Write a "Letter to a Wetland" during the session and you could be featured in Wetland Science & Practice!

Gillian also recently co-authored two articles advancing the Rights of Wetlands conversation. One highlights 181 global wetland initiatives, showing just how much the movement is growing. 📈 Her newest article in Wetlands, “How implementing the Rights of Wetlands provides benefits to people and wetlands: Relationships, rights, responsibilities, experiences, and actions,” further explores the science behind the 8 Rights of Wetlands, the responsibilities those rights create for people, and how they can be put into action.

Pride Month at BSC: Building Inclusion Through Respect, Representation, and Trust - BSC Group 06/01/2026

🌈 At BSC, a strong workplace culture isn't built despite our differences — it's built because of them.

We believe every employee deserves to come as they are. When people feel genuinely seen and respected, they bring their whole thinking to the table. That's how better decisions get made. 💡

Through our Pride Team, community conversations, and everyday allyship, we're committed to making that real.🌟

“No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us."
— Micah Bazant. (This quote is often attributed to the revolutionary, trans, q***r activist Marsha P. Johnson, but was actually written by artist and activist Micah Bazant, who has since embraced the way it has traveled the world in her name and spirit.)

Wetlands have the best hidden stories. 🌿

A frog call.
A turtle sighting.
A heron in the shallows.
A beaver quietly redesigning the whole place.

As American Wetlands Month comes to a close, we’re celebrating the muddy boots, field notes, plant IDs, wildlife sightings, and small clues that help us understand these living systems.

It’s almost World Turtle Day! 🐢

May 23 is all about celebrating turtles and protecting the places they call home.

At BSC, turtle sightings are always a fieldwork highlight. But our love for turtles goes beyond the cute photos, it shows up in the work we do to protect wetlands, restore habitats, support rare species review, and monitor sensitive environments.

Here’s to the slow movers, sun baskers, and tiny reminders that habitat protection matters. 💚
