"I think place informs a piece, even indirectly, and I believe that feeling of disconnect between where you’re raised and where the motherland is is something many of the diaspora struggle with. I’m out of place where I was born, and I’m out of place in the motherland – there’s a liminal quality to it, always being stuck between worlds and never able to fully fit into one or the other."

So great to meet so many folks. Thank you so much for this exhilarating experience.

Some photos from yesterday's Indie Lit Fair co-presented by the Community of Literary Magazines & Presses (CLMP) & the PEN World Voices Festival! 🥰😍🤩

We met so many folks doing incredible work including The Feminist Press (whom we had the honor of sharing a table with!), Radix Printing & Publishing Cooperative, CavanKerry Press, The Bilingual Press, Tough Poets Press, McPherson and Company, Black Lawrence Press, and Archipelago Books.

The cloudy day took a turn toward some sunshine. Several blocks beside Washington Square Park were closed off so attendees could meander through without worrying about traffic. Children and adults enjoyed munching on guava candy and lollipops and partook in the giveaway of lots of free zines. Sara Zieve Miller's adorable frog stickers and Meia Geddes' book earrings drew lots of oo's and ah's. People chatted without too much prompting and we appreciated how endearing and supportive folks were.

We had our beautiful new releases by Soon Jones, Canadian writer Miguel Eichelberger, and Sherre Vernon.

Thank you so much to PEN America & CLMP for having us! This was our first time representing Poetose publicly, and it was such an exciting opportunity we couldn't pass up. The joy of meeting people in person cannot be overstated and we're inspired to attend more events in the future when possible. 🌞💜

"Long weeks of rain. Sharp, lashing winds. Then, out of nowhere: spring. I run past the law school, past the trickling fountains. The water washes the trees with a dappled glow, turning stiff trunks to a moving canvas of light. Sun-laden stalks of juicy green smile at me with their whole faces, creamy curlicues, freshly washed spathes. Among the peace lilies, my heart expands, unfurls, grows sunkissed and warm. I tramp through blades of wet sweet grass, listening to Korean songs about spring, cherry blossoms, and what love meant to me in the language back home..."
