My new year's resolution is to read court notices more carefully so I don't wear a suit to a telephonic hearing.

Sad to hear of the passing of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court chief justice Gants. A great jurist who will be missed.

Lawyers get frustrated when clients go off and do things without consulting with us first, or doing what we told them not to do, with usually bad consequences. We are surprised when our clients are surprised when the bad thing we told them would happen actually happens.
We (the lawyers) then go and do all the things that our IT vendors tell us not to do (because we are lawyers and we are smart and think we can do everything) with usually bad consequences. We are then surprised when the bad thing happens to us. I think the official term for this is irony but the unofficial term is either stupidity or stubbornness. Posting for a friend...
