Here’s what I learned: 1) Assumptions breed defensiveness. I used to think my wife was trying to criticize me, but she just wanted to feel understood. When I stopped assuming the worst, I could actually hear her needs. 2) Listen all the way through. I used to get defensive before she even finished talking, but now I listen fully. This shift alone turned our arguments into meaningful conversations. 3) Ask clarifying questions. Instead of shutting down, I now ask questions to make sure I’m hearing her right. find yourself a road trip buddy & head north to the white mountains! The next few weeks are going to be stunning up in New Hampshire so I highly recommend hitting all or a few of my recommended stops on your foliage adventures! Artist Bluff Trail — 1.5 mile loop with a stunning view over Echo Lake. This one gets crowded so go early if possible! @flumegorge — $20 entry with savings if you book in advance. I felt it was worth it to see the uniqueness of the natural gorge and a nice paved path! @supersecreticecream — up a little further in Bethlehem NH, this one is not to be missed! Best ice cream ever! Mt Layfayette & Franconia Ridge — my favorite hike in the Whites! It is not for the faint of heart as it is ~9 miles and pretty rocky with a ton of elevation but the views are unreal walking across the ridge to 3 peaks! Falling Waters Trail — this 3.2 mile trail is an alternative hike for those looking for a slight challenge and some stunning waterfall views. You’ll hit Little Haystack summit on this one.
