Runners! I know this might be hard to hear, but you need to be taking at least one rest day a week 😴 If you haven’t been, start scheduling it into your training like you do everything else 📆
Rest days allow your body to get stronger, heal and adapt to the stress you’re putting on it, allow you to mentally recharge, improve quality of your sleep (yes, overtraining negatively impacts sleep!), and helps you avoid burnout.
Many of us who are running spring races are starting to reach high mileage weeks and rest is becoming even more important. Take your rest and recovery just as seriously as you do yoir training!

The “bad” runs are the ones we learn the most from 🏃🏻♀️✨and today was no exception for me. This morning’s miles were the hardest I’ve run in a long time, and not because of the distance or pace. About a .25 miles into my first interval I knew it was going to be a hard day and almost right away I felt frustrated but then I thought 🤔 what can I learn from this 💭 So here are a few lessons from my run this morning that I hope can also help you on tough days!
1️⃣Be smart about winter running. With how icy and uneven the roads and sidewalks are it was extremely difficult to gain and keep momentum, never mind be on the lookout for cars. I hate the treadmill as much as anyone but today would’ve been a good day to take the workout indoors. Shoutout to my husband for reminding me to put on my yak tracks even while he was still asleep lol. Next time though, you’ll catch me on the tread.
2️⃣You don’t always HAVE to listen to your watch, crazy I know 🤪. When you’re not feeling it, adjust! As you get to know yourself better as a runner, you’ll know what certain paces are supposed to feel like and sometimes running by effort or feel is the way to go. So today I adjusted my expectations for my run. One of my intervals was 40 seconds off my pace and that’s just how it goes sometimes 🤷🏻♀️
3️⃣Don’t skip your recovery! 😴🙆🏻♀️. My legs still felt heavy and tired from my hill workout on Monday, strength training right after, and my easy run yesterday. I did almost no foam rolling or stretching until last night 🙄. My sleep and nutrition were good but my muscles were still super sore, not great when going into your workout… Lesson Learned! 🫡

These two photos are a testament to the power of proper coaching, recovery, and nutrition while training for a marathon and by extension any endurance event.
Photo 1 📸 Taken at the finish line of the Providence marathon in May 2022. While I did snag a BQ, the struggle bus 🚌 was real 🥵🫠 This picture perfectly captures the pain and exhaustion I felt for the final 6.2 miles of the race, that’s a loooong time to struggle for lol
Fast forward 11 months later to April 2023 at the finish line of the Boston Marathon and you can see the pure joy, strength, and feeling of accomplishment written all over my face. Even after being sidelined with a torn labrum and femoral stress fracture, I was able to make a strong return to run and grab a PB at Boston. 🏃🏻♀️💫
The secret? A dedicated run coach who emphasized the importance of rest and recovery 😴 preached fueling and nutrition like there was no tomorrow 🥙🍳🍚 and gave me the gudiance I needed throughout my training. Thank you and 💜💜
Being able to experience how effective having a run coach is is one of the many reasons I wanted to become one. With years of my own running experience and having learned so much from my own run coach and the courses I’ve gone through, I can’t wait to help you reach your running potential and cheer you on every step (literally) of the way 📣📣
If you’re looking to elevate your running game and hit your PB, train for your very first 5k, or just want to see what this whole running thing is about, DM me and let’s talk!

Still riding yesterday’s high. Just the funnest day with some of my favorite people💛💙🦄
The crowds were even more amazing than I thought they would be!! I don’t know why I thought I would need music/headphones, never even turned them on!
The course was gritty and challenging but I felt strong all throughout. Thank you for your amazing coaching and guidance for how to best tackle this course, I trusted my training and it didn’t fail me.
HUGE shout out and thank you to my friends and family for all of the support not just yesterday but through the many months and even years of training. Could not have done it without you all!! 🫶🫶🫶
