Grace Academy will operate on a two hour weather delay for Friday, November 22nd. Doors will open to students at 9:30am. If your student is a regular Friday attender and cannot attend due to weather, please text the school phone. Please drive safely!

Grace Academy is pleased to welcome Keith McCurdy to the High Country this Thursday! Keith will present on the value of allowing our children to struggle, and how it’s required in order for children to grow into “sturdy adults”—adults who can face life’s challenges with maturity, resilience, and perseverance.

This event is open to parents, grandparents, educators, and anyone who works with children in the High Country.

Keith is a Family and Parenting Educator and Consultant, as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Virginia. He has worked with families, children, parents, and individuals for over 30 years in the field of mental health.

We had a great time during our Open House last Friday. We are all excited and ready to see you tomorrow for our first day of school at Grace Academy.

We have come to our last Teacher Tuesday of the 2020-2021 school year! Today we introduce you to Mrs. Melissa Plyler our Middle School science instructor. Melissa is a North Carolina native. She grew up in Raleigh and attended Meredith College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in child development and a teaching certification for intermediate education. She is also certified in mentor and cooperating teacher programs. Melissa taught in the Wake County school system and later in the Watauga County school system after her husband, Lance, took a job with Samaritan’s Purse and moved their family of five to Boone. In 2014, she joined the faculty at Grace Academy as a Science Instructor for Middle School and loves that she can teach with a Biblical worldview. Directing the children’s choir at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, gardening, and traveling are just a few of the things she enjoys outside of teaching.

It’s our favorite day of the week again, Teacher Tuesday! This week we are featuring Mr. Shannon McCready. For over 30 years, Shannon has been pouring into the lives of children both here and abroad. His passion for Christ and His church permeates every area of his life. Shannon joined the Grace Academy faculty in the summer of 2020 as our new Social Studies Instructor for middle school and also as our Latin Instructor for grades 4 through 8. Born in the “Little Apple” of Manhattan, Kansas, Shannon spent his early years in Wichita, KS and Tega Cay, SC. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Wichita State University, and he’s also an ordained minister. When he’s not in the classroom, Shannon serves as the Lead Pastor at Mountainside Community Church. He also enjoys cycling, backpacking, hiking, and playing the guitar. Shannon and his wife Sheri have been marred for 31 years and they have two sons and two daughters: Isaac, Annie, Elisa, and Elec.

Guess what day it is? That’s right, it’s Teacher Tuesday! Today we highlight Mrs. Yulanda Bollinger, our middle school Language Arts Instructor and Grace Academy’s Curriculum & Accreditation Manager. Yulanda joined GA in 2019 after moving to Boone from the coast of North Carolina. She has a degree in education from UNC Chapel Hill. She and her husband, Lee have seven children. She describes homeschooling her children as not only surviving but thriving!
When she is not teaching, she enjoys playing the piano, reading, and spending time with her beautiful grand baby, Louisa!
