PUBLIC MEETING: Who is planning to attend the PUBLIC FORUM regarding the proposed RATE INCREASE request from Illinois American Water to the State of Illinois (Illinois Commerce Commission)? It is being hosted next month in Bolingbrook!

It is absolutely crazy that they are requesting yet ANOTHER rate hike -- we have to unite our voices to tell the State of Illinois ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Your voices, our voices were heard! The State of Illinois did not pass the BUILD Act last night! Success! ๐Ÿ‘ I am hopeful the State of Illinois tries a more collaborative approach next time with local municipalities having a supportive hand in solving the crisis!

Bolingbrook, let's be honest and transparent here -- we absolutely do have a housing and affordability crisis across Illinois, and that reality deserves to be taken seriously by all levels of government. Communities everywhere are feeling the pressure of rising costs, limited supply, and the need for smart, practical solutions that actually work for families, seniors, and even workforce housing. This is an issue worth engaging on in good faith, collaboratively between State and Local government. And I sincerely welcome a phone call from any of our local State Reps or State Senators if they want to work together on this, versus simply trying to strip away local control.

In my opinion, Illinois House Bill 5626 (the proposed BUILD Act), is raising significant concern not only here in , but around the State of Illinois (I can send you videos from countless Mayors from all over Illinois!). The bill aims to increase density, but doesn't realistically address affordability in any common sense manner! As written, it would override local zoning authority and allow higher-density development (such as 6- to 8-unit buildings) on lots currently zoned for single-family homes, without meaningful local input or approval processes. It shifts major land-use decisions away from local communities and into statewide mandates. ** In short, you won't have a voice, and we (as a Village Board) won't be able to do anything about it! If your neighbors home sold, a developer could come in and increase density WITHOUT your feedback and WITHOUT our Village approval! **

Beyond zoning changes, there are real concerns about unintended impacts such as 1) increased strain on local infrastructure like roads, schools, water, and sewer systems, 2) potential conflicts with existing local safety standards, and 3) the removal of community-level review that has traditionally helped ensure responsible, context-driven development. These decisions have long-term consequences for neighborhood character, safety planning, and fiscal stability.

If you share these concerns, now is the time to act. Contact the Governor of Illinois ( https://gov.illinois.gov/contact-us/contact-the-governor.html ) , your State Senator, and your State Representative and respectfully urge them to oppose HB 5626 and the BUILD Act in its current form. Encourage them instead to support solutions that address affordability without eliminating local voice and control. Need help finding your State Reps and State Senators: https://www.illinoispolicy.org/maps/

"Don't complain and fearmonger unless you are providing a solution or alternative!" -- Over the past few weeks, many have asked me, "well, if not this, then what?" One strong alternative in my opinion worth reviewing is the Illinois Municipal Leagueโ€™s REAL Housing Act. It focuses on practical affordability tools while preserving local decision-making authority. Learn more here: https://iml.org/REALhousing . Encourage your State Rep and State Senator to review this proposal instead!

If you'd like to have a conversation about this, please send me an e-mail and let's set up a time to chat: https://linktr.ee/ccarpos .
