Raven came to us after being saved from heartbreaking conditions near Lewiston, Idaho. She was living without adequate food or water, surrounded by waste, and arrived severely underweight at just 35 pounds. She was also suffering from alopecia, and our veterinary team worked to determine whether her hair loss was caused by severe malnutrition or an underlying autoimmune skin condition.

With time, nutrition, and compassionate care, Raven began to heal. She gained nearly 10 pounds, reaching almost 44 pounds, and once she was healthy enough, she received her spay surgery. Her coat continues to improve every day, most of her skin concerns have resolved, and we are hopeful her mild anemia will improve with continued proper nutrition and time.

In our care, Raven has been a typical, busy shepherd... always on the move and happiest right next to (or right behind) her favorite people. She has been friendly with staff, walks fairly well on leash, and loves a tasty cheese treat. She may be interested in chasing vehicles she sees, so her future family will want to continue working on this behavior.

We aren’t sure how Raven feels about other dogs, so we recommend a meet-and-greet with any pups already in the home before adoption.

After everything she has been through, Raven is ready for the next chapter: a home where she can continue healing, feel safe, and finally experience the love she deserves.

Thanks to Idaho Animal Rescue Network for rescuing these dogs from Lewiston and transferring 15 of them to us for medical care and forever homes.

Amid screwworm spread, Idaho issues new requirements for animal entry into the state 06/22/2026

Idaho is urging residents, livestock owners, animal transporters, and anyone moving animals into the state to be vigilant for signs of screwworm, a serious parasite that can affect livestock, companion animals, wildlife, and even humans.

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is warning people not to bring animals from areas where screwworm has been detected, including states such as Texas and New Mexico, without taking proper precautions. Those moving to Idaho from affected areas, traveling with animals through those regions, or transferring animals into the state for rescue or adoption should ensure animals are examined by a veterinarian before entering Idaho.

"On Wednesday, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture announced animals coming into the state from infected areas are required to have a health certificate issued by a veterinarian within five days of movement."

The Idaho Humane Society has required health certificates for out-of-state origin transfer animals entering Idaho for decades as part of our commitment to protecting the health and safety of the pets in our care and the communities we serve.

Amid screwworm spread, Idaho issues new requirements for animal entry into the state As New World Screwworm fly infestations spread in Texas and New Mexico, officials warn Idahoans to look out for infections among livestock and pets traveling across state lines.

Meghan sent us the most beautiful tribute to her little four-legged best friend:

"In 2010, my parents surprised me with the greatest Christmas gift I could have ever asked for: a tiny Chihuahua min-pin puppy from the Idaho Humane Society. I had always wanted a dog of my own, and when I met him, I instantly fell in love. Tinley was my very first puppy, and from that moment on, he was my baby and shadow.

For 16 years, Tinley was by my side through everything. He grew up with me and was there for some of the biggest moments of my life. No matter what was going on, I could always count on coming home to his sweet little face and unconditional love.

Tinley had a huge personality packed into a tiny body. He loved being close to his brothers and sister, following me around, curling up under blankets, and soaking up every bit of attention he could get.

One of my favorite things about him was how excited he was whenever I came home. Every day, he would run to find something to bring me, whether it was a toy, a sock, or whatever treasure he could find nearby. It was his way of showing he was happy to see me, and it never failed to make my day.

He made ordinary days better just by being there. Through my teenage years, and adulthood, Tinley was a constant source of comfort, happiness, and unconditional love.

I feel incredibly lucky that I got to spend 16 wonderful years with him. Adopting Tinley was one of the best gifts I’ve ever been given, and none of it would have been possible without the Idaho Humane Society. The love, joy, and companionship he brought into my life far exceeded anything I could have imagined when I came home to that Christmas surprise in 2010.

Because of the Idaho Humane Society, I got 16 years of love, countless happy memories, and a best friend who will always have a place in my heart.❤️"

Our little furry friends leave their paw prints on our hearts forever!

This cutie is Milly! She came to IHS as a stray, so her history is a bit of a mystery. Milly can be shy when meeting new people and appreciates a calm, patient approach while she gets comfortable in new situations. She likes having time to observe her surroundings, settle in, and build trust at her own pace.

Milly is looking for a cat-savvy home that understands that some friendships take a little time to blossom. Because she can be sensitive to handling and needs a predictable environment, she is not a fit for a home with children under 13.

While in our care, we've learned that Milly prefers to be the only cat in the household. She may be able to live with a dog, but any introductions should be slow and carefully managed. The love of a shy cat is something truly special, and once you've earned their trust, the bond can be incredibly rewarding.

If your home sounds like a good fit, stop by to meet her today! Learn more: https://idahohumanesociety.org/adopt/pets-details/?aid=61020781&cid=41&tid=Cat
