Boise State —> International Space Station 🚀

Researchers from the Boise State College of Engineering are sending an experiment to the International Space Station aboard a SpaceX mission. Tiny cubes of simulated bone marrow, no larger than a pencil eraser, will remain in space for 21 days.

When the samples return to earth, researchers will analyze their genetic activity and their ability to form mineralized bone tissue. Insights from this research could improve treatments for osteoporosis and age-related bone loss, enhance recovery from injury, and help protect astronauts during long-duration space missions.

Boise State thanks our partners in this mission: Space Tango, UTHealth Houston, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the National Science Foundation (NSF)

Congratulations to Grant Olson, winner of the 2026 Creative Routes award!🚲

Creative Routes is a program commissioning student artwork to encourage sustainable transportation on Boise State’s campus. Olson, a senior graphic design major from Folsom, California, recently had his winning bike sharrow design installed on Michigan Avenue. He also received a $500 scholarship.

“I have always had an affinity for an outrun, synthwave style,” Olson said. “I thought that simple but active style would translate well into a design for a bike sharrow. … Ultimately, the design was something that I was super happy with.”

Late May 2026 brought 16th century costumes, a Baroque rendition of “Pink Pony Club” and an exploration of serious themes to Boise’s basement Comedy Lounge.

This was "Funnie," the third production put on by The Luminary Theatre Company, a Boise-based theatre group that focuses on women’s stories.

The organization takes pride in its care for cast and crew members. It also carries a strong connection to Boise State: Founded by alumni, the company continues to appeal to current and former Boise State students, who come prepared with creative collaboration experience ready for the writer’s room, the box office and the stage.

Big hair, big dreams and Blue Turf 🔵

The 80s at Boise State was an iconic era of change and growth. On Sept. 13, 1986, Boise State unveiled the nation’s first non-green artificial football field. Ever since, the Bronco turf has earned nicknames: Smurf Turf, Bronco Bluegrass and Lake Lyle in honor of Coach Smith.

In 1984, the World Birds of Prey Center was relocated to Boise and officially opened on a hilltop overlooking the Treasure Valley.

Kelsey Moser, an economics graduate student and the associate coach for Boise State Esports, joined Boise State after her own esports world tour.

Her career has taken her to Shanghai, where she covered the Chinese League of Legends league as a freelance writer; to Berlin, where she coached a low-budget esports team to the playoffs; and to Los Angeles, where she worked for gaming industry giants like Evil Geniuses and Riot Games.

When Moser decided to hone in on esports coaching, Boise State’s team stood out as a top choice.

“Boise State is concerned about the people we recruit,” she said. “We don’t do a lot of player trades. You come here, you stay and you’re here to get your degree. We want players to love it here.”

This year, alongside Economics Professor Michail Fragkias, Moser helped establish two esports internships for economics graduate students.

“Everything in esports is data,” Moser said. “There’s lots of need for analysis, and no one has cracked the perfect analytical model for all the variables in esports. It’s exciting that our interns are working on that.”
