My favorite time of the year!!! Ber months! 🤠

Harvest is here, but it’s the harvest before the big harvest. 🤠 That one is still about a month away, and I can’t believe how fast this growing season has gone. Wasn’t it just the 4th of July?! 😆🤔 Where does the time go?

I’ve watched this barley field across from my little place grow all summer, and now it’s officially harvest time. The barley is cut, the straw is baled, and just look at these beautiful bales scattered across the field. 🌾

Now I’m curious… any guesses how much one of these big bales weighs? 👇

Every morning, I’ve watched this field change.

I watched the first green shoots push through the soil in the spring. I watched the wind ripple across the barley all summer. Now, as the combines move across the field, another growing season comes full circle.

It’s a quiet reminder that so much of life happens slowly. Long before the harvest, there are months of planning, patience, uncertainty, and countless hours of work that most of us never see.

Watching farmers turn a field into food has given me an even deeper appreciation for the knowledge, skill, and dedication this way of life requires. Every harvest represents a year’s worth of decisions, hard work, and hope.

This field grew corn two years ago, sugar beets last year, and b**r barley this season. Standing here, watching another crop come home as the sun rises over Idaho, I’m reminded that every season has its purpose, and every harvest has a story worth telling.

Thank you to the farmers who make it all possible.

Every evening ends the same way.

One last stop at the gate, a little treat for Cooper (tonight it was a vanilla wafer), a scratch on the neck, and a quiet “goodnight.” As the sun slips below the horizon, he heads off to rest, and I head inside the house knowing we’ll do it all again tomorrow.
