Gratitude is a game changer pure and simple.

I will continue to remind all this; Gratitude is not about denying the darkness. It is about infusing the darkness with light to bring balance to our experience. It is about looking up and around. It’s about perspective. Gratitude reminds us why we keep fighting, why we continue to show up for it all.

Look up. Look out. Yes there is pain. There is darkness. And there is so so much beauty and light

Please understand this - when we show up for life authentically - when we refuse to hide behind the fortress of image and perfectionism we make others feel less alone. We give them hope and communion. We help set them free. Lay the armor down
because we’re all on this train together
and we’ve never needed each other more 💕

It’s just this simple. Find the courage to be seen and to truly see - to be heard and to sincerely hear 💕

Man, do I love strong willed kids. It may have a teeny tiny bit to do with the fact that I was a kid who spoke truth to the biggest people in the room. I was filled with fire. That fire saved me. It is my greatest strength to this day.

Strong willed kids did not come here to play small. They came here to shake things up - to push and pull us forward. They came to smash our egos and all our precious little ideas about right and wrong and how this whole life thing is supposed to go. It requires courage, awe, perspective and a boatload of humor to remain engaged with them. If we are hyper focused on the need to be right and obeyed at all times our expectations will exhaust us. If we believe our children came to make us feel big and important and so so right we will crumble under the disappointment and resentment - but if we understand this fundamental truth - that our children were sent to force us to face ourselves, that they came to help set us free - then we are in for the ride of our lives.

See the fire. Notice the boldness and passion. Honor it. Nurture it. Do not allow it to frighten you. Never cave to the desire to tamper it because it would just be so much easier on you if they were who you think they should be. They are going to need every bit of that fire where they’re going. How lucky are you to watch it all play out.

Mark Twain said “worrying is like paying a debt you do not owe” Fear is addictive. It is also contagious. Fear, unless we are being chased by a wild animal or a human with a weapon, is never born of truth or reality. It is always based on illusion and unchallenged stories. Turn off the news. Put Twitter etc down. Crank some music. Step outside. Make a gratitude list. Notice everything that has turned out ok. Breathe 💕
