A customer scheduled an appointment with us to try and figure out why they weren't getting enough power to some of the outlets in their home and flickering lights. This customer had a few other electricians come to try and diagnose the issue, but were never able to find it. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻! 💪

With our nifty "Fox and Hound" tool, we were able to trace out the wires behind the drywall to find the issue WITHOUT having to cut holes everywhere trying to blindly find it. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘁?: 𝗔 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗮 𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝗿𝗲. A simple problem sealed in drywall! The kicker? 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 🤯🔥 It appears that walls had been moved and relocated, and in that process crushed the conduit which pinched the wires inside the pipe damaging the neutral.

We abandoned that circuit, and re-ran the wire utilizing a nearby circuit. The problem with the flickering lights? Bad LED drivers. New lights are being purchased to replace them.

Though we hit some unexpected underground roadblocks with heavy tree roots and rocks during our trenching to the spa location, we quickly adapted. That is exactly why you hire a professional! When unexpected problems pop up, we don’t run away—we find a solution. 🛠️
We utilized an alternative, code-compliant conduit that didn't require as deep of a trench to safely bypass the obstacles, keep within our permit parameters to pass the underground inspection, all without delaying the upcoming paver installation.

Both the underground and final inspection passed the first time 💪

Now, our client has the peaceful backyard retreat they dreamed of ready for relaxing and entertaining. Job well done! 🥂

Today's job was a permitted replacement of a 150 Amp interior panel. This home had the original Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) panel, and insurance required it to be replaced. This home also suffered a fire in an outlet in the bedroom which was repaired.

Upon inspection of their exterior panel, a crack on the main breaker was noted. Since this panel is also a FPE panel, there are no replacement parts to correct the damage, only a replacement is recommended.

⚠ 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲: Normal modern breakers fail 1% to 5% of the time, while FPE breakers fail up to 60% under overload tests.
⚠ 𝗡𝗼-𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁: Overloaded circuits stay on. The internal parts fail to shut off the power. Wires get too hot and start fires.

These pictures shown are from my client today who had an active kitchen outlet fire. Their FPE breaker did not trip to stop the power before the fire started. Again, another customer who was lucky that they were home and noticed the fire before it became a catastrophic scene. These are real situations that occur because of these panels, and why insurers are so insistent on them being replaced.
