One of the biggest misconceptions about codependency is that it's simply "caring too much" about other people or being "too helpful."

There's nothing wrong with being a deeply compassionate person. But if someone else's emotions consistently become your responsibility, then you may want to ask yourself what you're trying to protect.

For many of us, codependent behaviors are an attempt to spare ourselves from the discomfort of watching someone we love struggle, make mistakes, or experience the consequences of their choices. We feel like we can handle things “better” or more “efficiently”, so we step in to rescue people from themselves without a second thought.

Healing codependency doesn't mean becoming LESS compassionate. It means learning to tolerate someone else's discomfort, feelings, mistakes, and problems…without making it YOUR responsibility to fix. That's the difference between supporting someone and rescuing them.

Have you ever caught yourself stepping in to fix a situation because you were uncomfortable watching someone struggle? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments! 👇
