LYNN Conservatory

The Lynn Wind Ensemble has been hard at work preparing for its upcoming concert, featuring symphonies by composers from France, Germany, Switzerland and the United States. American composer James Stephenson joined the ensemble to share insight into performing his Symphony No. 1. 🎶

Join us on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wold Performing Arts Center for our first large ensemble concert of the 2026-27 season! The performance is free to attend and open to the public.

Today we are excited to shine a spotlight on Kenneth Amis, our tuba professor and Wind Ensemble conductor.

An internationally acclaimed tubist, composer, conductor, and educator, Amis was a member of the renowned Empire Brass and will soon perform his own Concerto for Tuba with the Lynn Philharmonia in October.

This weekend, Amis will take the podium to conduct the Lynn Wind Ensemble in an exciting program featuring four wind symphonies full of charm, power, and passion.

We were thrilled to have Sharon Villegas (PPC ’22) and Diana Lopez (BM ’21) back on campus for our Annual Conservatory Alumni Concert this past Sunday! They played to a packed house and kicked off our 2026-27 season with a great program of music by contemporary Latin American composers. 🌟

Now streaming! 🎶 Our Distinguished Artist-in-Residence Julian Schwarz has just released his new album Arthur Foote: The Complete Cello Works.

This album marks Schwarz's debut with the Delos label and features the world premiere commercial recording of Foote’s Cello Concerto. He is joined by pianist and partner Marika Bournaki, internationally acclaimed conductor Gerard Schwarz, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.

This weekend, we’re excited to welcome back Diana Lopez (BM ‘21) and Sharon Villegas (PPC ‘22) for our Annual Conservatory Alumni Concert! 🎺🎹

Join us at 3 p.m. this Sunday, Sept. 6, in the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall for a recital exploring the vibrant and evolving musical traditions of Latin America through works by living composers.

Since graduating from Lynn, Diana has become Principal Trumpet of the Sarasota Orchestra, and Sharon has joined the faculty of the School of Musical Arts at the University of Costa Rica. We can’t wait to welcome them back to campus!

That’s a wrap on week one of the 2026-27 academic year! Our students spent the past five days reconnecting, auditioning, attending orientations and classes, and, of course, practicing. We are excited for a great year of music making ahead! 🎶⚔️

Dr. Roberta Rust, head of the Lynn Conservatory piano department, recently made a four-city piano master class tour of China, visiting Shanghai, Jiashan, Hangzhou, and Xuzhou. While there, she connected with Lynn piano alumni, her former students Wang Yingpeng (BM ‘20) and Xiaoxiao Wang (BM ‘20, MM ‘22).

The season features the best of symphonic repertoire by Schubert, Berlioz, Brahms, and Bartók, alongside performances by our annual concerto competition winners, student composer Matthew Chou (BM '27), and student conductor Aidan Quintana (BM '27). Opening night also features Distinguished Artist-in-Residence Kenneth Amis performing his own Tuba Concerto.

This summer, violinists Julia Jacobsen (MM ’27) and Meixi Zhou (BM ’27), along with incoming cellist Luis Bernardo Castro Sanchez (PPC ’28), attended the Chautauqua Institution in New York, where they performed with the Music School Festival Orchestra, participated in chamber music and student recitals, and studied with renowned faculty. 🎻

Every Friday, Lynn Conservatory students step into the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall for Performance Forum, a weekly class where the entire Conservatory community comes together to perform for one another.

Faculty offer comments on every performance, giving students consistent stage experience and thoughtful guidance week after week. It’s a cornerstone of their training and a supportive space to grow as performers.
