A new UC Davis study is raising serious questions about "made with avocado oil" claims on packaged foods. 🥑

Researchers analyzed chips, mayonnaise, and salad dressings by extracting the oils directly from the finished products and testing them for authenticity.
The results were eye-opening:

About 89% of products labeled with avocado oil were found to contain oil inconsistent with pure avocado oil.

Consumers pay a premium for products made with avocado oil. They deserve confidence that what's inside the package matches what's on the front.
That's why the Seed Oil Free Certified® program goes beyond ingredient lists.
Our certification includes:

✔ Supply chain auditing
✔ Independent laboratory testing of added oils and fats for authenticity
✔ Random finished-goods surveillance testing to help ensure ongoing compliance

We're also honored that the UC Davis paper recognized the Seed Oil Free Alliance's third-party verification program. Even more encouraging, two Seed Oil Free Certified® olive oil dressings included in the study were confirmed to contain authentic olive oil.

Transparency builds trust. Independent verification helps earn it.

The organic label is one of the most recognized certifications in the grocery store, but it's also one of the most misunderstood.

One of the questions we hear most often is: If a product is organic, can it still contain seed oils?

The answer surprises many shoppers.

In our latest blog, Seed Oils in Organic Foods, we explore where this misconception comes from, how USDA Organic and Seed Oil Free Certified® serve different purposes, and why understanding both can help you shop with greater confidence.

If you're looking for more clarity on food labels and ingredient transparency, this is a great place to start.

🥗Many store-bought dressings use seed oils as the primary fat, but, as a recent PARADE Magazine article highlights, the conversation is more nuanced than social media often makes it seem.

The concern isn't one serving of dressing. Experts point to cumulative exposure to seed oils, especially when paired with low omega-3 intake.

One takeaway we can all agree on: flip the bottle over and read the ingredient list. Understanding what's in your food empowers you to make informed choices.

We're encouraged to see PARADE Magazine covering this topic with balance and context, and we hope more mainstream media outlets continue to have thoughtful conversations around oils and fats.
