Fluency disorders affect how smoothly speech flows — not what a child wants to say, but how it comes out.
You might hear repetitions, stretched sounds, or moments where speech feels “stuck.” Some children may also show tension or frustration when trying to get their words out.
Occasional disfluencies can be typical, especially in young children. But when it becomes frequent, persists over time, or starts to impact confidence, it’s worth taking a closer look.
Early support can make a big difference in helping children communicate more comfortably and confidently 💛

🩷 We created this social story for a little girl with feeding difficulties. She’s a picky eater but also relying on getting the major of her calories from milk… from her bottle! At age 3, we’re already past “weaning” and she has a good understanding of language to help her explain why it’s being taken from her. Visuals for a social story used to take me 10x as long before AI - now we can really customize stories to a particular child and situation 😊🩵 Let us know if you need some advice to get your child off the bottle!

🤔 Did you know chewing does more than help with eating?
Learning to chew helps develop the jaw and tongue coordination needed for feeding and later speech clarity. It builds stability, teaches the tongue how to move side to side, and supports overall oral motor development.
If a child is not transitioning to textured foods by around 12–15 months, or is still heavily relying on purees past 18 months, reach out to us about a feeding therapy evaluation. Early support can prevent bigger challenges later.
Feeding is not just about nutrition — it is a developmental skill 😋

💛 Child-led therapy is intentional, not passive.
When we follow a child’s interests, we lower pressure and increase engagement — which is exactly when more authentic, spontaneous language shows up. Kids learn best when communication is meaningful to them, not when they are being prompted nonstop or expected to perform.
The goal is not compliance. The goal is skill-building. When motivation is high, progress tends to follow 😉

All behavior is a form of communication.
When a child “acts out,” they are not trying to give you a hard time — they are having a hard time. Behavior is often the visible signal of an unmet need, a lagging skill, sensory overwhelm, fatigue, frustration, or difficulty expressing wants and feelings.
If we focus only on stopping the behavior, we miss the message. But when we get curious instead of reactive, we can ask the real question: what is this child trying to tell me?
Our goal should never be compliance for the sake of convenience. Our goal is to build skills — communication, regulation, flexibility, and connection — so the child no longer needs the behavior to be understood.
When we support the root, the behavior naturally changes.
