Magnolia, 30x40cm, oil on canvas (sold). This painting was in my 2023 exhibition, ‘A Closer Look’ and for some reason I didn’t post it then. It seems a fitting time now as the last of the flowers fall from the Magnolia trees as Spring settles in.

These leaves looked so delicate and I loved the way the light shine through them creating colourful shadows. The painting is 25x30cm.

I think these are called Snowflakes or Leucojum, I thought they looked quite nice in this glistening silver cup. The green background is the back of a slightly scuffed book about Hieroglyphics but it was the perfect colour. I love this time of year, the garden is full of new things to paint every day. The painting is 30x40cm or 12x16.

I’ve been having a sort out in my studio and I came across this painting from Istanbul which I had forgotten about. It’s the view across the Golden Horn towards Hagia Sophia which was lit by a radiant pink evening light. 40x50cm, oil on canvas.

Happy New Year everyone. I’m back in the studio after a long break and enjoying being covered in paint again. Here’s the Pelargonium I’ve been working on this week, I’m afraid I’m not sure what the variety is but it has lovely leggy stems and fresh looking leaves.

Dougie has just turned one and is every bit as cheeky as he looks here. I don’t draw the children nearly enough but when I do it does feel very special.

Ramesseum in the glorious morning sun. I’m hoping to have an exhibition of my paintings of Egypt, if you are interested please send me your details or subscribe to my mailing list on my website.

The early bird catches the worm. I had another solitary morning this time at Karnak, before the crowds descended. The temple is quite overwhelming, it’s enormous and so well preserved.

I’m back in Egypt and spent the morning almost entirely alone at Ramesseum listening to the birds and wondering what the walls would say.
