๐พ๐ Meet Parker ๐๐พ
Parker is an IVDD warrior who reminds us every single day what resilience truly looks like. Despite being paralyzed, Parker continues to live life with joy, love, and the sweetest smile. ๐ถโจ
IVDD, or Intervertebral Disc Disease, is a condition that affects the spine and spinal discs. It can cause pain, weakness, difficulty walking, and in some cases, paralysis. Itโs most commonly seen in dogs with long backs or short legs, but it can happen in many breeds. Early signs can include reluctance to jump, crying out in pain, wobbliness, or dragging the legs.
While IVDD can be life-changing, dogs like Parker show us that paralysis does not mean the end of happiness or quality of life. With supportive care, love, and determination, so many IVDD pups continue to thrive and enjoy the things they love most. ๐
Parker is a beautiful reminder for all of us to keep finding joy, keep adapting, and keep living life to the fullest no matter what challenges come our way. ๐

Our newest patient may also be one of the most handsome! From those bright green eyes to his sweet personality, Finn had the whole team smitten during his first visit.
New environments can be a little scary for cats, but Finn was brave, curious, and absolutely stole the show. Weโre so happy to welcome him to the Healthy Pets family! ๐ฑโจ

**POST YOUR RESCUE AND SHARE THEIR STORY!!**
Yesterday was National Rescue Dog Day ๐พโค๏ธ
And while the day may have passed, the mission never does.
Every rescue pet has a story. Some come from neglect, some from abandonment, and some simply never had someone believe in them yet.
But rescue dogs? They love the hardest.
They forgive the fastest.
And they remind us every single day what unconditional love really means.
Thank you to every rescue, foster, adopter, volunteer, and advocate helping give these pets the second chances they deserve. ๐ถโจ
And to all the rescue pets out there โ thank you for rescuing humans right back.

๐ฆ๐ Hero of the Day Alert ๐๐ฆ
Our Practice Manager, Sydney, isnโt just an incredible leader here at Healthy Pets Veterinary Care โ sheโs out there saving lives even outside the clinic walls. ๐ฉบโจ
This iguana was found trapped and tangled in a soccer net, exhausted and fighting for its life. Without hesitation, Sydney stepped in to carefully free and rescue him. After getting him safely untangled, she made sure he was stable, warm, and able to recover before being released. ๐ช๐ด
Wildlife emergencies can happen anywhere, and acts of compassion like this remind us that caring for animals goes far beyond the exam room. Weโre so proud to have someone with such a huge heart on our team. ๐
Great job, Sydney! ๐๐พ

๐ฌ๐ What are we looking at under the microscope?
Here, Giana is reading an ear cytology โ a quick diagnostic test we perform by taking a sample from your petโs ear and examining it under the microscope.
This patientโs results?
๐ฆ LOTS of bacterial rods.
โRodsโ are a type of bacteria that appear long and rod-shaped under the microscope. In ear infections, rods can sometimes indicate a more severe infection that may require specific medications and closer treatment monitoring.
On ear cytology, we commonly look for:
๐ต Cocci โ round-shaped bacteria
๐ฃ Yeast โ budding organisms that often look like little footprints or peanuts under the microscope
๐ฆ Rods โ elongated bacteria that can cause painful, stubborn infections
When bacteria and yeast overgrow in the ears, pets can become VERY uncomfortable. Symptoms may include:
๐ Head shaking
๐ Scratching at the ears
๐ Redness/inflammation
๐ Odor or discharge
๐ Pain or sensitivity when touched
Ear infections rarely clear up on their own, and identifying exactly whatโs growing helps us choose the best treatment for your pet. ๐ฉบโจ
If your pet is shaking their head or scratching their ears, it may be time for an ear check!

๐ฆ๐พ TRUE OR FALSE? ๐พ๐ฆ
โ My dog is an indoor pet, so they donโt need flea, tick, or heartworm prevention. โ
โ FALSE!
Even indoor pets are at risk for parasites. Mosquitoes carrying heartworm disease can easily make their way inside your home, and fleas/ticks can hitch a ride indoors on people, other pets, or even clothing.
In these photos, weโre performing a quick yearly heartworm test โ a simple blood draw that helps us make sure your pup stays healthy and protected. โค๏ธ
The best protection is:
โ๏ธ Yearly heartworm testing
โ๏ธ Monthly heartworm prevention
โ๏ธ Consistent flea & tick prevention year-round
As summer approaches and mosquito activity increases here in South Florida, prevention is more important than ever! โ๏ธ๐ฆ
Heartworm disease can be serious โ but the good news is itโs preventable. Letโs keep your pets safe, healthy, and parasite-free all season long! ๐ถโจ

๐ฟ๐พ Wellness Month Team Walk ๐พ๐ฟ
This Wellness Month, our team traded scrubs for sneakers and headed out on a beautiful after-work nature walk in Boca! โ๏ธ๐พ
We explored a local trail, walked just over 2 miles together, spotted different plant species, and even got to see some tortoises along the way! ๐ข๐ฟ Of course, Smoke was the perfect adventure buddy and made sure everyone stayed smiling the whole time. ๐ถ๐
Taking time to move our bodies, enjoy nature, and connect outside of the clinic is such an important reminder that wellness matters for veterinary teams too. Weโre grateful for moments like these with our Healthy Pets family! โจ
