Most students leave the capstone project off entirely, because they’re afraid it looks like they’re claiming to be an expert. Here’s the truth after 30 years of talking to hiring managers: nobody thinks a 22 year old is an expert at anything. They’re hiring for hunger and speed of learning. Your internship ends this week, and by January it will be worth nothing to you.
Not because you did it badly. Because you will not remember any of it.
I sit down with students every September and ask one question. Tell me about your summer. They freeze. The work was fine. It is just already gone.
So do this today. Not in six months when you are applying.
Open your phone. Voice memo. Ten minutes. Say everything you can remember:
Every project you touched
Every tool and piece of software you used
Every team or function you worked across
Every deadline you hit
Every mistake you learned from
Every person who taught you something
It does not have to be organized. Nobody is listening to it but you.
And you are going to think some of it is trivial. Getting coffee, sitting in on calls, cleaning up somebody’s spreadsheet. It is not trivial. This is the raw material for every bullet on your resume and every answer in your next interview.

You are not losing the offer because of your GPA.
You are losing it on one line of your resume, and there are only two versions of that line.
One exaggerates. “Led a cross functional team to a 40% revenue increase,” for a semester group project. That might get you the interview. It falls apart the second someone asks a follow up question.
The other hides. “Assisted with spreadsheet tasks,” when what they actually did was build a working financial model.
Here is what I tell my students, and what I told my own two recent grads.
Nobody thinks a 22 year old is an expert. Nobody.
No one is reading your resume hoping you will solve the problem their team has been stuck on for five years. That is not the job. They are hiring curiosity, ambition, and whether you will ask good questions and figure it out.
Say what you did. Be ready to talk about it. That is the whole thing.

You aren’t getting the interview because you are hiding. You think putting experience on your resume means you are an expert. But believe me when I tell you, nobody thinks a 22 year old is an expert … of ANYTHING!
So put the class project on your resume, review the project before an interview to make sure you can talk about your role in the project, and make sure anything you write you can defend.
