Ecological, Edible Landscape Design and Implementation

Today I spent some time at the homestead of Caleb . Saw his RAM pump irrigation system that passively (via stream mechanics) delivers water to the top of the garden, where it detains and then irrigates the garden via swales. Tons of passionflower, a diversity of fruit and veggies. Chickens. A human child. 😊
Great visit. Grateful for his expertise and collaboration w .roots.herbs

Nine out of ten projects start with a design phase. Having a vision of the cohesive, realized whole allows us to accurately cost estimate the project and also plan for phases of installation. This yard consists of a front yard meadow that can be expanded in a future phases, as funds allow.

Perennial plugs are root stock and our favorite way to plant masses of perennials: medicine gardens, meadows, borders, raingardens and more. Some of the 3,000 perennials we are installing this fall include:
Solidago- Goldenrod
Baptisia- False indigo
Echinacea- coneflower
Rudbeckia lacinata- cutleaf coneflower
Achillea- Yarrow
Aesclepias- milkweed
Agastache- anise hyssop
Acorus- sweetflag
Asters- many
Iris cristata- crested iris
Pyecanthemum- mountain mint
Heuchera- Coral bells
Geranium maculatum- wild geranium
Comfrey
Valarian
In no particular order, but the one my over-worked brain is indexing on the fly….

Regenerative Landscape Solutions: why the change in terminology?
Newest blog post on the website:
“We are hearing (and using) the word Regenerative a lot these days. What does it mean and why the change in terminology? When we opened our doors as Ecological Designers in 2006, the word we used was Sustainable: we are designing and implementing more sustainable landscapes…. Regenerative is meaningful... 🔗 to website in profile and click blog.

I get questions about the meaning of the word Regenerative in farm/ landscapes and why the change in terminology over the years..... Here's a simple explanation.... the term IS meaningful.

Regenerative landscapes — Sustenance Design So each of these goals: building soil, supporting biodiversity, infiltrating water and storing carbon lead to Regeneration. Regenerative is a meaningful term for landscapes and when we utilize these techniques, from a variety of methods- Permaculture and Organic agriculture to name two- we are impr
