A student-built biomedical innovation powered by linear motion. ⚙️
Four engineering students from University of Waterloo used Progressive Automations technology to bring LARS — Load Assistance for Reduced-Strain Sonography — to life.

LARS is a semi-robotic articulated arm designed to reduce the physical strain sonographers experience while operating ultrasound probes, while keeping full user control.

🩺 Using the PA-01-2-16-HS-12VDC Feedback IP65 Mini Linear Actuator, the team created responsive force assistance for a more ergonomic ultrasound experience.

🏆 Recognitions include:
Norman Esch Entrepreneurship Award — 2026
Biomedical Engineering Capstone Best Prototype — 2026
Baylis Medical Capstone Design Award — 2025

This project is a strong example of how linear motion technology can support real innovation in healthcare.
