Summer Heat arriving this week! Check out Monroe County Emergency Management - Indiana's post below to remember how to stay cool and precautions to take during high temperatures.

The Heat Is Here

Wednesday and Thursday will be hot and humid this week, with temperatures around 88 and 93 degrees in the afternoon.

Along with the heat, rain chances and thunderstorm chances continue for both Wednesday and Thursday.

Since it is June, the heat and humidity are here to stay for a little while. Some days will be hotter than others, so be ready and prepared.

Please take time to look at some of these heat-related safety tips:
- Drink plenty of water and drinks with electrolytes. Avoid drinking a lot of caffeine.
- Wear cool and lightweight clothing; avoid dark and restrictive clothes.
- Slow down by taking frequent breaks, especially if you are outside for a prolonged time.
- Take breaks in the shade if possible.
- Limit direct exposure to the sun if possible.
- Know the signs of heat-related injuries and illnesses.
- Always check the backseat of your vehicle for children or pets prior to locking the doors and leaving.

See below to learn more about Free Meals for Kids this summer through Community Kitchen. Thank you Community Kitchen for providing this for our community!

It's summer and we're providing free lunches to children under 18, in these neighborhoods at these times each Monday-Friday until school resumes in August. Children must be present to receive a meal but any child can access food at any of these stops. You don't have to live in the neighborhood where we're serving. No requirements and one meal per person.

This spring we had an amazing visit from Stephen Daley, defensive lineman from the 2025 IU Football National Championship team. Our Head Start kiddos had a great time visiting with Stephen, playing on the playground, tossing around a football, and showing off their muscles. We are so appreciative of Stephen for sharing his time with us, and showing our kiddos that dreams are achievable. We know our children and staff members will remember his visit for a long time, especially the kindness he showed to everyone.

Yesterday was the ribbon cutting for the Rev. Dr. Marvin Chandler Center! We are so happy to open a much needed space that provides early learning and affordable housing for our community. This center is in partnership with the wonderful, Summit Hill Community Development Corporation. We were honored to have many of Rev. Dr. Chandler's family come to the celebration and even help us cut the ribbon. Thank you to all of those involved in making this center happen.
