🔔 Free parking on metered streets during Thanksgiving Weekend (November 28-30) and the week before Christmas (December 18-24).

The City of Bloomington is reopening Kirkwood Avenue to vehicle traffic and parking on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, marking the conclusion of this year’s seasonal closure.

During the season, portions of Kirkwood Avenue were converted into pedestrian-friendly spaces for outdoor dining, walking, and local events. The 100, 400 and 500 blocks will reopen. The 300 block of East Kirkwood Avenue, which includes the Monroe County Public Library, reopened earlier on October 3.

To keep supporting downtown businesses as the season shifts, the City will again offer free parking on metered streets during Thanksgiving Weekend (November 28-30) and the week before Christmas (December 18-24).

These free parking periods make it easier for residents and visitors to shop local, dine downtown, and enjoy Bloomington’s holiday events.
