“You look amazing! Have you lost weight?”

We’ve been taught that this is a compliment. But the truth is… we have no idea why someone’s body has changed.

Maybe it’s intentional.
Maybe it’s stress.
Maybe it’s grief.
Maybe it’s illness.
Maybe it’s medication.
Maybe it’s an eating disorder.
Maybe it’s something deeply personal that they don’t want to talk about.

When we automatically praise weight loss, we can unintentionally reinforce the message that smaller = better. And that our bodies are somehow more worthy, beautiful, or successful when they take up less space.

But there are SO many other things we can notice and celebrate about people. 🤍

Their joy.
Their energy.
Their kindness.
Their laugh.
Their creativity.
Their strength.
Their style.
The way they make people feel.

Let’s compliment people without making their body size the accomplishment.

Today’s reminder: your body is not the enemy. 💚

Diet culture gives us rules:
“Eat this, not that.”
“Don’t eat after this time.”
“You already ate, so you shouldn’t be hungry.”
“Save your calories for later.”

But your body has its own signals…hunger, fullness, satisfaction, and energy.

Learning to listen to those cues instead of constantly following external rules can be a more supportive way to care for yourself.

And if you’ve spent years ignoring or overriding those signals, you may not recognize them right away. That’s okay. This is something you can rebuild over time. 🌱
