Happy Juneteenth, Illinois!

Let’s celebrate and remember the victories of the past, while we reaffirm our commitment to justice today.

In our state, we choose equity and freedom.

It was a pleasure joining leaders across Bloomington for the groundbreaking of the Sunnyside Park Sustainability Initiative!

I was proud that the State of Illinois was able to provide $600,000 of funding through the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant. I thank my colleagues at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for helping make this possible.

To echo Bloomington’s council and mayor, infrastructure isn’t just brick and concrete. It’s an investment in the health and safety of our community. I’m looking forward to seeing the benefits of this project for years to come!

My office has launched the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge! Students in our area that register with us and read 10 or more books over the summer will receive:

It was an honor attending the raising of the Pride Flag at Normal Township today.

On this tenth anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub Massacre, this flag represents the struggle which the LGBTQ+ community has waged for basic rights in our society.

Thank you to Supervisor Krystle Able, her incredible team, as well as the Township Board for making Normal Township the first municipality in McLean County to formally fly the Pride Flag 🏳️‍🌈

We had a wonderful time attending the Wayman A M E Church Bloomington IL Annual Love Your Neighbor Block Party!

It was great to see so many friends come together to play games, share community resources, and stop by the Book Bike.

Thanks to all the fantastic organizations that made this possible!

My district office was honored to host Mayor DeShawn Williams for a visit!

Communities across the 91st and our neighbor to the southeast, Urbana, share many things in common. We are growing, prosperous places in the central part of our state, we have fantastic colleges and universities in our areas, and we are just down the road from one another.

It was great learning about the successes seen in Urbana, and how the state government partners with mayors and other local leaders.

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

This is not only a month of celebration and love, but a time to reflect on the movement for equality. We owe so many advocates and leaders for the progress that’s been made, and we are eternally grateful to them.

We must also acknowledge the rising extremism in our country today. Hatred places people at risk, and that’s why Illinois continues to stand up for LGBTQ+ rights.

This Pride Month, I’m encouraging everyone to be proud of who you are and to love loudly!
