Fishings been good! Big seabass, bonito and stripers. We all know it’s been sharky and a bunch of seals taking catches on BI lately. Here’s how we beat the predation;
larger gear - move away from light tackle... beef up to heavier gear
Up the drags and leader strength, don’t play the fish - get it to the boat. Use soft plastics not live eels - our favorites are the new Bill Hurley 12” eel and the 14” Block Island eel in blurple or sandeel, & the ProCrawz… YES plastic works on an eel bite! We deadstick - drop em 5’ above the school and leave the rod in a rod holder. Or fish em low & slow down drift... you will get sharks on the soft plastics but far fewer than with eels.

Another great time with the Tristate Shootout on Block Island! The local boys on VaMoose had a great time competing. Almost had 2nd place in the TriFishecta but came up .6 lbs short 😳 Looking forward to next year!
