The Block Island Conservancy will hold its Annual Meeting on Sunday, October 5th at 12:00pm at the 1661 Inn. We will also have red buckets available for pickup if you have signed up for the compost pilot or would like to!
All are welcome to learn what BIC has been up to this year and hear from our guest speaker, Taylor Gendron of Re Block Island. Taylor and her team have been working with the McCluskey Family to help Rewild, Regenerate and Restore Block Island through radical land conservation in the Block Island community.
This event is open to the public with light refreshments to follow the meeting.

🚨🚫We have had to pull out multiple compostable bags, plastic and take out containers from the food collection bins over the past few weeks. These items will break our drum and ruins our compost. Please please please double check what you are throwing in the bins! Even bags and containers that claim to be compostable can NOT go into the drum. Only those with red buckets can drop food waste. Sign up on our website for a red bucket🚨🚫

Swipe to see a list of thin film plastic bags and other items that you can drop off at our table at the Farmers Market. We are compressing them into plastic disks (last slide!) that can be recycled into construction materials and furniture. They are not eligible for mixed recycling at the Transfer Station so bring them to the BIC at our table at the Farmers Market!

Adrian Mitchell was a Block Island conservation pioneer. In 1972, he joined other like-minded Islanders and together they founded the Block Island Conservancy, one of the first Land Trusts in Rhode Island. Their first mission was to protect Rodman’s Hollow from a massive housing development. Adrian continued to work to preserve and protect Block Island right up until the end of his life. Between 1987, to the present, he conserved portions of his iconic farmland creating a legacy of free open space for generations of Islanders and visitors to enjoy. The Block Island Conservancy can’t begin to express our gratitude towards the generosity Adrian has shown us over the years. He is loved by all and will be very missed. Rest in Peace, Adrian.
