Exciting news! The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham for our wonderful initiative called “Books not Bullets.” Deputies will now have books in their patrol cars to share with younger students in the communities they serve. This program, spearheaded by Sheriff Mark Pettway, is geared towards building relationships with the youth in Jefferson County and bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community.

Sheriff Pettway expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating that connecting with the youth is crucial for the success of the county. He emphasized that the safety and well-being of students are top priorities for the Sheriff’s Office, and initiatives like “Books not Bullets” allow them to better serve and understand the needs of the community.

Our deputies are everyday people just like you. In fact, Deputy Howze is not only a dedicated member of our law enforcement team, but he’s also a baseball coach when he doesn’t have his uniform on! It’s important to remember that behind the badge, our deputies have hobbies, interests, and lives outside of their duty to serve and protect.

Deputy Howze is just one example of the incredible individuals who make up our team here at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. They go beyond the call of duty, connecting with the community in various ways. We are proud to have deputies like him bridging the gap in all aspects of life.

Congratulations to Caleb C. Williams, a senior at Pleasant Grove High School, on his acceptance to the University of Alabama! Caleb has big plans to major in Business Management, and we have no doubt he will excel in his studies. It’s no surprise Caleb comes from a family of hardworking individuals - his parents are Deputy Carlos A. Williams, a School Resource Officer at Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and Tamisha J. Williams, a dedicated teacher at Hueytown High School.
